Beginner Songwriting (Winter 2026)

Mondays from 7–8:30pm at KPC Studios starting February 2, 2026 (six weeks).
Note: No class on February 16th.
Have you ever wanted to write a song but didn’t know where to start? Or have you started many songs but don’t know how to finish them? Jump into our Beginner Songwriting course and you’ll come out with a finished song! In this six-week class, you’ll learn all the basics of songwriting. You’ll also have an opportunity to record your song at KPC Studios and perform your song in front of others (if you want to)! No previous music experience necessary.
About the Instructor: Emily Persha
Emily is a songwriter, vocalist, pianist, and music educator in the greater Seattle area. She strives to craft songs that are catchy, introspective, and melodically interesting with influences such as Brandi Carlile and First Aid Kit. She received her degree in Music Education from the University of Washington and previously worked as an elementary music teacher in Redmond, a choir teacher at St. James Cathedral, and an accompanist for the Bellevue Girl Choir. Emily teaches private lessons in piano, voice, and songwriting and loves working with students of all ages and experiences! Aside from teaching, she is an active performer and has performed on iconic Seattle stages like The Tractor Tavern and The Royal Room.
Emily is also the Social Media Manager for The Bushwick Book Club Seattle. She is passionate about Bushwick’s mission to deliver literature, music, and songwriting to the Seattle community while building the next generation of songwriters.
